Who Needs Toys?

When you have dirt. Will and our friend Jason hauled 3 truck loads of dirt to our house last weekend. I haven't been able to keep the little kids out of it.
The other day I heard Drew go outside and before I could stop him he was in the dirt pile, no shoes, no worries...

Simple Paint Craft

This craft kept my 2 1/2 year old entertained for 20 min. There isn't much that entertains him for this long unless he is digging in the dirt. All you need is paint, a pan, paper and cars.I put a dab of yellow paint and a dab of blue paint in a pie pan. I let the boys drive their cars through the paint and then drive them on the paper. They loved it. My 3 year old realized that when you mix the 2 colors together you get green!

Our Weekend

We had a great holiday weekend and I was bummed for it to be over. I am just getting over yet another migraine tonight so I am going to make my post short and sweet and just include some pictures from the weekend. Unfortunately most of the time I didn't have my camera but I did get a few shots.

Friday we spent the evening at a graduation party for a co-worker of Wills son. The weather was perfect and the kids did great playing outside in her yard. They live in a beautiful area.

Saturday we had Will's cousins graduation party. They graciously asked me to make the cakes for her party. I have only done birthday cakes for the boys so I was a little nervous to make such a large cake for the graduation. I made 6 cakes and put them together 3 and 3. I think it turned out pretty good. Will's cousin only asked that it be hot pink and black!Sunday we spent the day at home and I got lots of yard work and burning done. Will and his friend Jason hauled 3 truck loads of dirt to our house. It took them all afternoon. The little boys spent ALL evening and afternoon playing in the new dirt. They were completely entertained and completely filthy. I wish I would have gotten a picture of Drew. We ended up grilling out and having dinner with our friends, made s'mores around the fire and then playing some cards.
Monday I had a headache :( It pretty much ruined my day. We did go to my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary party in the afternoon. It was nice seeing everyone just wish I felt better.

Well there is the recap of our weekend. I guess it wasn't so short! Hope everyone enjoyed theirs and hoping for nicer weather tomorrow. At least my garden got a good soaking after today's rain.

DMACC Pond

Today the little boys and I headed to one of our favorite places. The DMACC pond. They love to go there and ride their bikes. When I told the boys we were going there Drew went immediatly out to the van. I went with him and opened up the back end. I had to run back in the house to get the diaper bag and when I came back out this is what I saw. Drew had taken out the chairs in the back of the van and put his bike in all by himself! He was ready to go.

DMACC has a great sidewalk that goes all the way around the pond. Today was the first day that we went completely around the pond. I have done this before towing them behind me in the bike trailer. But today they actually walked (rode) the entire way on their own. Of course we had to take a few breaks here and there to rest! And have a snack. We sat and watched this momma duck and her 4 little ducklings. Which we decided must be Widdle, Waddle, Piddle, Puddle and Little Quack, except I kept telling Brodie there was only 4 so someone must be hiding. He agreed with me. This was really funny since one of his favorite books is Little Quack Hide and Seek. This was towards the end of our walk. Our last break before heading back to the van. Can you tell they are getting tired? Drew was happy to sit in the shade and said "this is nice and cool" which I agreed with but got a chuckle out of since it seemed funny for a 2 year old to say that.I figured they would be so exhasted they both would crash on the way home. But ohhh no. They were still going. And wouldn' t you know it, it ended up being a no nap day. I know they will sleep good tonight.

Family Night ~ The First Fishing Adventure of the Year

We had a great family night. We decided it was just too nice to stay inside for a movie night so we headed out for a picnic and fishing at a nearby park. Unfortunately Jake wasn't feeling well so he didn't join us. I went against my meal plan tonight and we stopped at McDonald's and took that to the park with us.

After dinner the guys headed out to do a little fishing. If you click on the picture you can see that their footsteps were in sync. Pretty funny huh? They were on a mission.Mostly Will just spent the next hour fixing every one's fishing pole. Drew's was broken when we got there. Not like he cared much. Typical Drew was just too busy to fish anyway he was much happier playing in the water...and mud. In this picture he is pulling seaweed off his foot.Within the first 5 minutes of us being there he fell into the water. Soaking and muddying his shoes and socks. They actually did get a little fishing in. No bites but that's ok. We had a really good time and the weather was beautiful. We returned home to find Jake feeling better. We had ice cream for dessert and spent the rest of the night relaxing.

Cast at Last

Jake went to see the Orthopedic doctor on Monday. He thought his break looked well aligned and it should heal fine. He has to wear his cast for about 4 weeks. He was pretty happy to have it on before school got out. The coolest thing is the signatures you know. I was happy that he doesn't have to have it on as long as we first thought.

A Little Taste of Summer

Yesterday was up in the 80s here. It made me excited for Summer! Everyone was in a good mood, including myself. We had a great day, spending the majority of it outdoors. Here is a brief recap.

We like to visit different parks and playgrounds. In the morning I met my step mom and nephew at a park nearby. The kids had fun playing on the playground and in the sand.In the afternoon we spent time playing outdoors at home and the little boys helped me water the garden and flowers. They could have spent the entire evening watering if we let them. They had alot of fun with that!
We had a wonderful summery dinner which included smoked porkchops on the grill. I made some corn bread which we smothered in my nieces homegrown honey. Today is suppose to be just as nice. Tonight is Family Night so I am thinking a picnic is in order for dinner and hitting up another park!

More Great Finds

I got lots of yard work done yesterday. I finally mowed the yard. The grass was so long! Will and the boys minus Jake helped rake and move grass to the garden where I spread it out to use as mulch. The rest we put in our compost bins. I love the smell and look of a freshly mowed yard.

One of my favorite things to do is go to garage sales. Pretty much every Friday morning from now until Fall, at garage sales is where I will be! I got some sweet deals this morning. I headed out in the rain, which is one of the best times to go because not many people are out. Here are some of the bargains I got.

6 pairs of shorts and 3 shirts for Jake for a grand total of $7.75
6 games/puzzels to play with the little boys. For a grand total of $5.50

Another Year, Another Broken Bone

Well we almost made it to Summer before our first broken bone of the year. Jake broke his hand yesterday. And what is amazing is that he did it to himself. He slammed his own hand in his locker. He broke it in 2 places.

He has to keep a splint on for 2 weeks and then go see an Orthopedic doctor who will then put him in a cast.

For those of you who don't know our track record with broken bones. We have had four years in a row now with broken bones.

2006 Jake arm
2007 Tony foot
2008 Jake finger
2009 Jake hand

Tony's Marble Project

Here are a couple of pictures of Tony's Marble Project for school. The goal of the project is to make a marble maze lasting at least 10 seconds using items from around your house. Tony did great and his looked really good. His marble took anywhere from 13-18 seconds to get to the bottom so he got 100%!

New Furniture

Thankfully it is raining out tonight so that my garden and new apple tree can get a good soaking. It will also make it easier for pulling weeds later in the week!

Tony's game got cancelled due to the rain so we spent the evening at home. I had a bit of a headache so I laid down after running some errands this afternoon. Thankfully tonight it is better. Will and Tony worked on his marble project for school. I will get a picture up of him with it tomorrow. It will be on display at his school.

I have to share this picture with you. This is our new furniture. Well, new to us. Without going into too many details, we got this leather furniture for free. It was going to be tossed out because it was unwanted and extremely dirty. It was actually pretty much coated in mud when I received it. After spending the entire afternoon cleaning it yesterday this is how it turned out. It looks great! We have needed new furniture for a really long time but just didn't want to invest the money into it! Will has always wanted leather so this is perfect! And, you can't beat free!

Oh and see the painting hanging above the couch? That was my $5 garage sale purchase a couple weeks ago!

Our Weekend

How can you have this much fun eating yogurt? You know it is almost the end of the school year when you have the Elementary Relays. The kids get to sign up for different events and the spend the afternoon at the highschool. The younger kids and I went to watch Tony Friday afternoon. He ran in the sack race (2nd place) the T-ball hit (5th place) and the soft ball throw (6th place).
He had a good time and got to leave early to come home with me so that was the best part for him! The younger boys did really well thanks in part by the fact that I brought Brodies constructions trucks for him to play with in the dirt.I had a great Mother's Day. My hubby took me out to dinner on Saturday night and on Sunday I was made this for breakfast...Crepes with Strawberry Sauce. Very fancy. I was given some really nice cards from all my boys and also this...A Gala apple tree! I was so excited.

The rest of my Sunday was spent working outside, planting some flowers, finishing up the garden, and spending time with my father and sister in law chatting while Will took his mother to dinner and a movie for Mother's Day.

In the evening we went to Will's cousins house to have dinner and celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday.

Hope you all had a good weekend and have a great week!

Have a great weekend.

Look Who's Blogging

I know it has been awhile. Things around here are hectic and crazy as to be expected with 4 boys. This is our schedule for this week...

Monday...Tony game, Jake Meet
Tuesday...Tony game, Jake practice
Wednesday..no events Hallelujah!
Thursday...Tony game, Jake meet
Friday...Jake meet, Tony practice
Saturday...Tony game 10a followed by concession duty from 12p-2p then another game at 2p.

See why I haven't blogged in awhile? This seems to be the routine at our house. Thankfully this is Jakes last week of track so things will slow down a bit. Tony plays ball into June.

The kids are done with school 3 weeks from today. I can't believe Summer is almost here already. I am so looking forward to our vacation in July.

Besides running from here to there each day, I have also been doing this...I got my garden almost completely planted. Still waiting on a few peppers, cucumbers and melons but everything else is in. We made the garden quite a bit bigger this year. I am really excited to see how it does.

Happy May Day!

It looks like the chilly temperatures and all this rain is going to break into some beautiful weather the next few days! I will defiantly be planting in the garden this next week.

After hitting some garage sales this morning the kids and I headed home to make May baskets.

I have been saving all my strawberry containers for this project! Add a little tissue paper (so the candies don't fall out) and a pipe cleaner handle and your all set.
Popcorn, M & M's, peanuts and Fruit Loops...it doesn't get any better than that! It's amazing anything got put into the baskets!I am off to Colo for the weekend to help my in-laws with their garage sale. The whole town is having a sale. Looking forward to finding some good treasurers! Have a great weekend!
